About SHANA Pearlmutter

Shana Pearlmutter is a mother, mixed media painter, community muralist, Reiki Master Teacher and healing-centered art educator to 1,000 students at A.G. Bell School. Her creative passions lie at the intersection of contemplative mindfulness, bridging community, social justice, awareness, inspired by investigating the layers of personal and collective memory healing with art. Recent endeavors include curating an international exhibition called  “Collaborative Concurrence”, receiving a Fund for Teachers  action research fellowship in the World UNESCO heritage site, Marrakech, Morocco with her husband, Mohamed Danja, developing and facilitating a pandemic-inspired online peace circle “We Are The Ones We Are Waiting For", co-creating 22+ public murals/happenings inspired by student voices with the Facing History and Ourselves core values and in 2016, she was awarded the distinguished Griffin Award for Teacher of Excellence from the Oriental Institute in Chicago and in 2019, Shana and her colleague, Peter Barash won the inaugural Obama Foundation Award for Leadership in Civic Education. She is passionately engaged with The Reiki Brigade, Project Soar Marrakech, Circle Ways council facilitation, the youth stewardship Earth Guardians Crew and the 8th grade civic agency Legacy Crew. She dreams we can move forward with sustainability and radical hope if we slow down, connect with nature, while finding the flow of possibility to reimagine a new consciousness based on transformative love and freedom.
